Suits of armor stand guard, dormant in a dimly lit hallway. The voices of people can be heard in the distance. The pounding of footsteps on the marble floor frows louder the closer they get. A voice sounds out louder than the murmurs of others, “These suits of armor here have been carefully preserved and restored to look like they did when they were in use in the Middle Ages. Notice the…” Tourists listen to the man, staring at the suits of armor with wide-eyed respect and awe. As you may have guessed, I hope one day to be a museum curator. My name is Daniel Johnston and I am writing to apply to your Museum Studies program.
For longer than I can remember I have been fascinated with history and art. It has been a dream of mine to work with these pieces of art and history since I knew what history was. Some people who study these things never do more than read about them or see them in books. I want to experience them first hand. There’s something to be said for being in the presence of art and history, instead of learning about it indirectly from others. My goal is that I might one day be able to pass my love of art and history on to others by showing them how truly amazing they can be.
One of the most amazing experiences you can have with art and history is experiencing it and dlving into it, but it goes deeper than that. The displays need to be organized, neat, and lit correctly. More so, you need a guide who can speak fluently and knowledgeably about the items in the museum. This person would have to have a well-rounded background knowledge of history as well as being a person with good interpersonal communication skills. I feel well suited to this job as a result of my nine years working as a teacher. Interpersonal communication skills were a must, as well as having good spacial organizational skills. In college, I took many history classes, including art history. I feel that these skills come naturally to me and I am very passionate about them.
I feel that George Washington University is the best possible choice for a college in which I could pursue a career in museum studies. There are many benefits to the school. The first thing I saw that attracted me was its proximity to many of the world’s most famous museums and historical sites. The ability to work with these institutions is a valuable tool to have when working towards these goals. I also noticed that a large percentage of your graduate students go onto work in the museum field. For these reasons, I feel that this school will best meet my needs as a student.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my application. I hope to be able to one day become a museum curator with the help of your program. I know that with the right education and opportunities that your university is able to offer, I will be capable of being a well educated, and well-versed museum curator. Choosing a college to attend can be a very difficult and arduous decision. The direction you take in choosing a college and a major to study will affect the rest of your life. I have known for a long time that I have wanted to be a teacher, and after spending much time researching information, I have decided on the path that I want to follow through my post-secondary career.
I knew I wanted to be a teacher because of an experience I had in high school. I had a teacher who made a huge impact on my life. He taught me how to have fun and to enjoy learning and he made school a whole new experience for me. More than anything, I want to share that passion with students of my own. I want to be the person who helps to make a difference.
I have always appreciated smaller classroom settings. I feel it is a better way to fulfill your educational needs as well as getting your questions and concerns taken care of quicker. This is one of the biggest reasons that I want to go to the University of Maine at Farmington. I have seen reviews about the education program at UMF and am aware of the awards the university has received for being one of the top liberal arts colleges in New England. My education is very important to me, and I know that at UMF, I will be treated with dignity and respect, while getting the best possible education I can get.
One of the most important things to have being a teacher is patience. I feel that I have what it takes to be a teacher. I have observed many classrooms and even helped out volunteering in some as well. I am able to talk to children and get them to understand what I am teaching them. Hearing professionals talk, I feel that I need to gain a better understanding of different theories and methods so that I know the best possible way to teach. I am looking forward to learning all of the different theories and methods you have to offer in your education program so that I may become a more effective teacher.
I hope that in the years to come I am able to become the teacher I aspire to be. I know that in order to achieve this goal I will need to spend a lot of time studying and putting into practice different theories and methods that I have learned.
